  • 32 years ago today

RRW shipped around a reminder that Bedford set the record for 10000 meters 32 years ago today. That was actually the second time I heard that today. Local Buffalo radio station that talks Buffalo Bills football 365/24/7 were talking about it this morning.
    "Guess his time."
    "How far is 10000 meters?"
    "About 10000 yards."
    "Ok-about 10 minutes."

Idiots-even using their definition and putting it in terms that they could understand-that would be 100 football fields in 600 seconds.

Since everybody was a 4:30 miler in HS, just tell 'em that it's better than 6 of those back-to-back without stopping. They'll get the idea.

I think they would find it hard to use their football field length analogy since when one uses large numbers you lose your frame of reference. And lets face it 100 times longer (re:their 10 000 y) is a lot larger.....?

I wonder what would happen if they began to think about the dimensions of the universe, even the solar system. Do you think their heads would explode?

But seriously, I thought 10K fun runs were all the rage? They don't even has a clue?

The two guys that were talking were about 25 and 38. WELL past the days when that was the case.
