  • HT 213' pretender? Looking for marks.

Searching for NCAA DI hammer marks from 1994-1996 and USA marks from 1997-on.

I'm checking on a throwing coach claiming to have thrown the hammer 213 feet, but his name is not on his alma mater's top-10 list (U. of So Cal) . . . so either he is fabricating or he threw 65m as a post-grad (post-1996).

Unless it was in warm-ups or practice, the scourge of all throwers.

edit event, guy e-mailed me the correction.

I think the only guys in that time period to throw that far in college were myself(Wake Forest), Jason Tunks(SMU), Alex Tammert(SMU), Godina(UCLA), and Andy Kokhanovsky (Abilene Christian). There was also a Swedish thrower for Northern Arizona who hit a summer mark around 65m but I am blanking on his name right now. Andy was just hired at University of Kansas to replace Doug Reynolds.

I'm hesitant to name a name just yet. Maybe it is legit.

If it is the only A.F. on the USC roster during that time, I would say some serious exaggerating is going on.

I believe the thread-starter's edit changed all the original DT to HT

A 213' hammer thrower is going to significantly lengthen the list. Around that time there were even some DII guys throwing that far.

I am currently the strength and conditioning coach at UC Davis.

Yes, I changed it to hammer. I am sorry for the initial error. Thank you for the information so far.

Apparently a current throwing coach named Abe Flores (USC '96) has told people he threw the hammer 216'. I cannot find any evidence of such a throw.

At least Abe isn't running FEMA.

Yeah, but Michael Brown threw 220' and ran a 4:30 mile in high school.

I suspect that there are a lot more bloated resumes out there (not just in coaching) than people care to admit. I was listening to a call-in show this weekend here in SW Ohio that featured an interview segment with 3 local human resources directors of three local companies. One of their biggest complaints was against people either flat out lying about or exaggerating their particular experience. Seems to be indicative of society as a whole.

Just in, Brown did not run 4:30 in H.S., and has thus resigned his post. Wow to all of us who may have padded our resumes!
