  • 46 Years Ago Today (Wednesday)

Yes, it was just 46 years ago today that little Said Aouita came into this world. Who would have guessed that this little guy would some day grow up and become an Olympic champion runner? He did grow up and if you were sitting in the Los Angeles Coliseum on August 11, 1984, you got to see a wonderful 5,000 race. Aouita's winning time was an Olympic record and less than six seconds off the world record. How many of you were in the Coliseum that day to see the 5,000?

I was a spectator and agree it was a great race.

It would have been a great race had Dave Moorcroft not been injured!

Waasn't there, but remember it very well. Nos. 2, 4, 5& 6 all beat their previous pbs by over 5 seconds, I've read. Won't see that again in a major. And Moorcroft did billiantly just to finish.
