In early April 1976 at the Dogwood Relays in Knoxville Tennessee, the UT 4 x 220 yard relay team of (Lamar Preyor 20.1, Ronnie Harris 20.3 Jerome Morgan 20.7 and Reggie Jones 20.5) tied the world record at that time of 1.21.7 seconds. What's impressive is that they ran from lane 8, the temperature was around 65 degrees and Reggie Jones slowed a little at the finish line before raising his arms in victory. The same four runners ran a 1.21.5 three weeks later at the Penn Relays tying the 4 x 200 meter relay mark. If not for injuries to each of the 4 runners on that team, they may have eventually been the first team to break 1.20 flat. Jones was a Junior, Morgan was a sophomore and the other two, Harris and Preyor were both freshman. Does anyone recall this team?

Re: University of Tennessee 1976 4x220 relay.
How'd ya guess. Yes. That's my brother. 8 time All-American. Finalist in the 1976 200 meter final and ran on a pulled hamstring acquired in the semi-final. He was actually closing in on Millard Hampton the eventaul winner of the Olympic Trials win his hammy gave out, so he limped in for 4th. Hobbled through the final in 21.23. Still had a distunguished career as a great relay runner.
