  • Bond....James Bond

Been watching the James Bond marathon this week on AMC and noticed a former US Olympic track & field gold medalist had a rather large supporting role in one of the films.

    Who was it, what movie?

Hints: This person's only movie appearance, won medal prior to 2000.

This can't be the guy you're looking for, but "Oddjob" in Goldfinger was played by Harold Sakata, who won an Olympic medal in 1948. However it was a) a silver medal, b) in weightlifting and c) for Japan.

            c) USA

Sakata was a born US citizen, from Hawaii.

Here seems as good a place as any to say that Rafer Johnson was one handsome fellow. If I was, y'know - but I'm not, not there's anything wrong in...

              Y'know ops:

I was wrong - Sakata competed for the US, sorry.
However the original poster was also wrong: License to Kill was far from Johnson's only movie role. See this web site:

Just a few hours after this latest post (14th, 2:30pm PT), one of the Bonds was spotted by yours truly in the SFO Red Carpet Club (on cell phone, drinking whiskey/soda, with an entourage of five) ...

It was Sakata but he competed for the United States in weightlifting. He was from Hawaii.

A great James Bond trivia question. Who finished 13th in the 1949 Mr. Universe Pageant.

Yes, it was Sean Connery. Read about it in the 60s in Strength & Health magazine and then once heard him talk his bodybuilding when he was on the Tonight show.
