  • Colleges With the Most Olympic Winners

This might keep us busy for a while.... how many schools have 5 or more Olympic winners ? I bet it's quite a lot, and maybe USC leads the pack.

I'm certain there is a thread on this from the past.

Well maybe there is a prior thread but we are all bored so I'll still kick it off here with a local school:

Indiana University 5 I can think of:

      Ivan Fuqua
      Roy Cochran
      Milt Campbell
      Greg Bell
      Derek Drouin

        Here's 7 from UCLA

Florence Griffith-Joyner, Evelyn Ashford, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Gail Devers, Rafer Johnson, Steve Lewis, Mike Marsh. Also, Danny Everett & Benny Brown & Jeannette Bolden won relay golds (since Ivan Fuqua was included for Indiana).

All well and good, Conor, thank you, ( I even had a post in the above thread, 15 years ago ! ) but let's have fun having different folks post different schools for TRACK & FIELD ONLY gold medalists, 5 or more.

USC has 41 gold medals, I believe.

Purdue gets 8 (or 10, if you count '06) golds just from Ray Ewry alone.

Don't know if they have any others.

Oregon has had eight Oly T&F gold medalists, two of whom won two golds, one of whom won those two golds in different Olympics.

That includes one athlete who won gold for a relay semifinal and did not run the final.

Well, if you really want to know, I have a spreadsheet (about 2-3 years old) now that lists all US Olympians and their college affiliations as well as sports (it includes all sports). It also lists medals won. If anyone wants to look at it, send me an email

Otis Davis and Ashton Eaton are two-gold winners.

Dang! The Naval Academy has a grand total of zero. But Earl Thomson, longtime coach, won gold in the 1920 Olympic 110 H. For Canada.

Don't feel bad Bob, my school has zero as well, just a bronze ( Shankle 110H 56), and silver ( Sime 100 60 )
