Jan. 22, 1971: All American Invitational, in SF: Ryun makes his comeback with a winning mile time of 4:04.4 (2nd Duncan McDonald at 4:10.2!).
By the way, the issue of T&FN that reported this (I Feb. 1971) had a big article titled "Track Interest Waning in US: Why?" (p. 17).
I handed out shiny new nickels to my research minions. They were happy, but not as happy as they'd be if I unshackeled them...
Out of curiousity, what reasons did TAFN give that track interest was waning in 1971?
