Happy 96th birthday today (Thursday) to an Olympic champion who, as far as I know, is still with us in 2021.

This champion competed in two Olympic Games, winning the gold medal in the first of those two Games.

You might know that our birthday athlete competed in two events during the first of the two Olympics in which this individual competed.

No hurdles were involved with this athlete's Olympic events.

Our birthday person won that Olympic gold medal approximately 890 miles (1,432 km) from this athlete's place of birth.

I'm pretty sure all the 1948 gold medalists are deceased, and in 1952, there were no German or French champions. And we had Barthel not long ago.

So I'll take a wild stab: Norman Read, the surprise winner of the 50k walk in Melbourne.

Maybe I am wrong about this athlete's death. I thought our birthday champion might still be alive, but maybe not. We are talking about an Olympic champion from London in 1948.

There was the Aussie high jumper John Winter but he died sone time ago.

Arne Ahman. I think Bambam said several months ago Ahman was the oldest living Olympic (track) champion.

Happy 96th birthday today to Arne Ahman and very well done, J Rorick. John Winter only competed in one Olympic Games (1948). Arne Ahman (Sweden) won the triple jump in London (1948) and he also competed in Helsinki in 1952. John Winter and Arne Ahman competed against each other at the1948 London Olympics in the high jump. Winter got the gold medal and Ahman didn't make the final 12 jumpers. Ahman only competed in the triple jump at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He didn't make the triple jump top 12 in Helsinki after winning the gold medal in London.

Let's hope Arne Ahman makes his 100th birthday in 2025. There aren't a lot of Olympic champions in track & field that have lived to see their 100th birthday.
