Happy birthday today (Tuesday) to two Olympic champions who competed at the same Olympic Games and won a total of three Olympic gold medals.

Our birthday athletes were born approximately 552 miles (889 kms) from each other.

One of these two individuals set a world record in the event in which this person won the Olympic gold medal.

The athlete that competed in two Olympics was only seven years old when the younger champion was born.

You may know that one of our birthday people died eight days before turning 76 while the other athlete died at the age of 76.

Not many people know that one of these two champions lost most of the vision in one eye from an accident as a teenager and the other champion worked as an executive at a major international company.

If you add the total number of years since their births, you should come up with 237 years.

A very unique performance in Olympic history was accomplished by one of our birthday athletes.

Did I tell you that one of these two champions became an Osteopath?

They had to have been born about 120 years ago so for HO I'll guess Harold Osborn

Harold Osborn was born 122 years ago today in Illinois. Very good, bambam1729. Osborn attended the University of Illinois and as a teenager, he lost some of his vision in one of his eyes. He competed at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games where he made Olympic history by winning the high jump at 1.98 (6' 6") and then, five days later, he won the decathlon. He cleared 1.97 (6' 5 1/2") during the first day of that Olympic decathlon. Osborn is the only Olympic athlete to win the decathlon and an individual event in Olympic history. He was fifth place in the high jump at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games.

You might be interested to know that Osborn, Alfred Hitchcock, Humphrey Bogart, and Charles Laughton were all born in 1899. Then again, you may not be interested in that fact.

Ed Hamm?

Ed Hamm was born 115 years ago today in Arkansas. A student at Georgia Tech, Hamm competed in the long jump and won the NCAA championships in 1927 and 1928. He set a world record in the long jump at the 1928 United States Olympic Trials by clearing 7.90 (25' 11"). A few weeks later, he won the long jump gold medal at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games with a leap of 7.73 (25' 4 1/2").

Hamm was second place at the 1930 NCAA Championships when Ed Gordon (Iowa) beat him. Gordon won the long jump at the NCAA Championships in 1929, 1930, and 1931. Ed Gordon went on to win the gold medal in the long jump at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Gordon was seventh place at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics and was a fairly tall long jumper at 1.94 (6' 4 1/4").

Hamm coached at Georgia Tech and later became an executive with the Coca-Cola company. He passed away in Oregon in 1982 at the age of 76.
