  • Who's run 5th Ave Mile the most times?

I watched the 40th annual 5th Avenue Mile yesterday, and as usual, loved it!
They often mentioned the absence of Jenny Simpson, who was running the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile the same day!
They also said she'd won the previous 8 (?) races!

    That got me to thinking--
Who has run (and finished!) the most 5th Avenue Miles in its 40 year history?
I'm obviously talking of the elite division only!

My guess is Simpson for the women, and Nick Willis for the mn!
    But I could be wrong.

I googled the data, but found none--except for a list of the winners!
But I don't care if they finished first or last--I just want to know who finished the most races in the 5th Ave race history!!

Anyone have a list, or a link with that info?

You could try working your way through all the results of the various editions here:

      Uh, thanks, but no thanks!
Was hoping to find that a 5th Ave Mile nerd had already done the legwork!
      LOL
Seriously, the site didn't go back past 2016's race!
Then they list ALL the finishers, not just the elites!
Finally, they mix the genders--so Reekie is listed behind the faster men from this year's race!

      But thanks again!

All the races are on there back to 1981. The easiest way to get to them is by filtering by distance.

The first one 40 years ago was a big deal.

Yes it was. I think it was shown on the BBC the next Saturday.

More of an afterthought these days......only available on usatf.org....

That 3:47 for Maree was supposed to be a statement he was going to be a factor in the future...but it was mostly downhill for Maree after that race.

I had a look to see if this could be done and it probably could, EXCEPT the database only has the winners (M/F) for 1986. That lack of data sort of kills the project right there.

I couldn't find any complete results online for 1986 but if somebody can find full results for both sexes for that year, I might look at it again.

Add the years 1994, 1995, 1996 and 2006 to the required list.

Or, if you want deeper 1986 results...

I'd guess that the New York Road Runners Club magazine back issues has results that may be "pretty" deep.
