I'm obviously talking of the elite division only!

My guess is Simpson for the women, and Nick Willis for the mn!
    But I could be wrong.
After a lot of unecessarily difficult graft on they nyrr website and internet searching as well as help from gm on the 1986 data, I managed to pull together results for all years, apart from 1996 and 2020. They did not run an event in 2020, so there's nothing to chase up except for 1996.

The missing data doesn't seem to interfere with answering the question becaue all the athletes with seven or more appearances don't span that year.. I've posted the tables below. If anybody can track down the full 1996 results, I'll add that to my list but I'm not going to go looking for it myself.

Name Country Competitions FirstYear Last year
    Jenny Simpson USA 9 2011 2019
    Heather Kampf USA 9 2010 2019
    Christina Boxer Cahill GBR 8 1981 1990
    Brit McRoberts CAN 7 1981 1989
    Shannon Rowbury USA 7 2008 2015
    Diana Richburg USA 7 1982 1989

Name Country Competitions FirstYear Last year

    Nick Willis NZL 8 2006 2019
    Sydney Maree USA 8 1981 1992
    David Torrence USA 8 2008 2015
    Ray Flynn IRL 8 1981 1989
    Steve Scott USA 8 1981 1990
    Bernard Lagat USA 7 2008 2015

eTN No. 36 in 1996 lists the top 12, which most likely is incomplete. However it lists in 9th place "Lagat (Ken)." Could this be Bernard Lagat? Or am I forgetting another Lagat of that era?

Sept 1996 would have been the fall of Bernard's freshman year at WSU, when he was 3 months shy of his 22nd birthday.

Thanks to gm for the final year of data. I have now updated the tables and the only change from yesterday was Jim Spivey getting an additional competiton in due to 1996.

I've updated the men's table and also corrected Country affiliation as far as possible - this was not a priority for NYRR.

I've also extended the women's table down to those with 6 competitions.

For both tables, I've now sorted in by Competitions, then First Year, to give a better idea of the eras.

Name Country Competitions FirstYear Last year
          Heather Kampf USA 9 2010 2019
          Jenny Simpson USA 9 2011 2019
          Christina Boxer Cahill GBR 8 1981 1990
          *Brit McRoberts-Lind Petersen CAN 8 1981 1990
          Diana Richburg USA 7 1982 1989
          Shannon Rowbury USA 7 2008 2015
          Lynn Williams CAN 6 1981 1989
          Sara Hall USA 6 2006 2011
          Hannah England GBR 6 2009 2014
Name Country Competitions FirstYear Last year
          John Walker NZL 9 1981 1989
          Ray Flynn IRL 8 1981 1989
          Steve Scott USA 8 1981 1990
          Sydney Maree USA 8 1981 1992
          Jim Spivey USA 8 1983 1996
          Nick Willis NZL 8 2006 2019
          David Torrence USA 8 2008 2015
          Jama Aden SOM 7 1983 1991
          Marcus O'Sullivan IRL 7 1987 1996
          Bernard Lagat USA 7 2008 2015

          * Edited to correct record for Brit McRoberts. Now harmonised name to Brit McRoberts-Lind Petersen to increase her count from 7 to 8 with the final year extending from 1989 to 1990.

Interesting while looking at this to see the names of the various sponsors over the years. Pepsi, Mercedes, Discover Card, New Balance.

For a couple of years in the mid-90's it was the Donald J. Trump 5th Avenue Mile.
              The backstory:

I just had a post of athletes with the most wins disappear into the unapproved ether, so I'll try another list, this time the top 25 times overall.

You will need to take the times with a small pinch of salt because times were published variously to the full second, tenths or hundreths. Some races event had a mix of hundreths for the top finishers and tenths for those lower down.

Apart from those to the hundreth, it's not clear if the others were hand timed to the tenth or rounded from auto times.

Clearly the whole second times discarded some part seconds but I couldn't find anything more detailed for those years (2003 &2004). Luckily, they were the slowest years with only two men sub-4 in 2003 and 4:10 the winner in 2004.

It's possible that the full times are available in the bowels of the NYRR but I wouldn't bet on it.

                    Rank Time Name Year
                    1 4:16.1 Jenny Simpson 2019

I did a bit more cross checking on women's married names and all country affiliation and found a few more inconsistencies, which are now corrected.

As a result I edited the table above for the following:

Brit McRoberts now harmonised to Brit McRoberts-Lind Petersen as per WA profile. This increased her number of competitions from 7 to 8 with the final year extending from 1989 to 1990.

I'm still surprised that Nick Willis doesn't lead the list for the men, as to races completed!!

OK, I've poked around the NYRR site and changed search parameters and found some more detail. It's still not a complete dataset on NYRR but I've been able to add a few more bits and pieces.

I've done quality control as much as I can, so it's probably as good as it's going to get from public sources.

I'm not going to maintain the data, but the data set is available in .xlsx format to anybody who wants it at the following link:

Just a reminder not to trust any download on a free service like sendspace, so run your virus checker over the file before you open it.
