      Which is correct. He was in the US Air Force at the time of his 1960 Olympic appearance although he was out of the Air Force by 1968. My wife was a flight attendant (actually back then a stewardess) for TWA for many years, and she has always said the best commercial pilots were the former Air Force pilots. They always felt safest with them.

          And I pirated a lot of the data from Hal's "America's Best" for the Olympedia bios on US T&F athletes. Hal knew we were using it, of course.

          Had some good times with Hal and Pete Cava and the old days of the TAC Press Box crew.
