Happy 53rd birthday today (Saturday) to an Olympic champion who was the first in Olympic history to do something special.

Born three days before the Mexico City Olympic Opening Ceremonies, our birthday athlete competed in three Olympic Games, winning two Olympic silver medals and one Olympic gold medal (that's 3 medals).

An athlete with the same initials as our birthday person won Olympic gold in the same event as our birthday champion just six days after our birthday athlete was born.

Happy birthday yesterday (Saturday) to Deon Hemmings who was born in Jamaica 53 years ago. Nice going, noone.

Deon Hemmings was the first woman from Jamaica to win an Olympic gold medal. She won the 400 hurdles in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics (52.82). She also anchored (49.34) Jamaica's four by 400 relay team that took fourth place in Atlanta.

Deon's first Olympics were in Barcelona (1992) where she finished in seventh place in the 400 hurdles. Her last Olympics were the 2000 Sydney Olympics when she took two silver medals: 400 hurdles (53.45) and ran the third leg on the four by 400 relay team.

Her husband is Michael McCatty.
