  • Father of Doug Nordquist Dies

I'm not sure if this has already been reported here, but high jumper Doug Nordquist's father (Neil) has died. Reports that Doug Nordquist (62) has died are false. My friend (name withheld) who originally reported the wrong person, is now in hiding. Both Doug and his father (Neil) were long-time teachers in Whittier, California (as was my friend who is now in hiding).

I apologize for this error and I apologize for listening to my friend in Southern California.

Wasn't he related to Dwight Stones?
I'm the best poster. Just ask me.

That's rather young to pass away.

Link is to a news report from last year about the teacher of the year award he received on the occasion of his retirement.

The report includes footage of his 7'7" (2.31) jump at the '84 Trials, with Al Michaels on the call.

Veteran music instructor and band leader in Whittier receives the honor of a lifetime after he's named Teacher of the Year; it's an award his own father earned three decades earlier.

Please know that Doug Nordquist is NOT dead. He is alive and well. Reports from my friend in Southern California now say that Doug's father (Neil Nordquist) is the one who has died. I am beginning to wonder about my friend who reported this earlier today. Neil Nordquist was also a teacher in Whittier (40 years).

My sincere apologies, however at least we now have some good news.

You're right and I'm glad to say that Doug is still alive today.

Yeah I was wondering because I couldn't find anything about him passing. Sad that his father passed.
