  • Bob Hayes only losing record

Having occasion to go through the Aug 26 1965 TN, I read with pleasure a profile on his career. He had a losing record (3-4) to only one man. Name him.

He was, but It was in the 100. [wrong! all were at 200m/220y!]

            nope, nope.
Bullet Bob is one of all-time faves, and I did not know this either. The sprinter is someone I have heard of, but know very little about, and this fact surprised me.

                nope

But I just discovered to my horror that I'm a big fat liar!! All losses were at 200m/220y. Hayes finished 2nd to this man thrice and 3rd to this man and another in the 4th race.
The first 3 were in 62 and the last was at the 64 FOT!

                So 79, you're on!

I would go with this answer, Bruce 😉 But as Atticus doesn't know much about the mystery athlete, this is certainly not the right answer...

Atticus said he beat him at the 64 FOT so it couldn't be Carr who finished 4th and had to be named to the team.

                          Paul Drayton??

Paul Drayton was a famous sprinter then. Shouldn't fit according to the trivia.

DING DING DING - We have a winner.

My ignorance of Drayton's career is that he came just before my rise to sentience in 66-67. I have familarized myself with many from the earlier 60s, but somehow he is a blank spot in my self-education. No more!

Sorry for the early misdirect, 79, you were on the right track all along. And bambam is a Pro anyway!!
