I need some help clearing up a mystery performance.
Tranel Hawkins (USA) was a 400H athlete at Angelo State in the early 1980s. He finished 3rd at the 1984 Olympic Trials in 48.28 and finished 6th in the OG final. He made the final of the trials in 1988 but finished in 6th place. This appears to be his last 400H ever. That's a pretty solid career and a normal conclusion.
HOWEVER, his IAAF profile has one other career performance in 1991, three years after his last competition, and in the 110H, an event he doesn't seem to have run even at college let alone at international level. The mystery is heightened because this solitary performance was a 13.30 for 4th place at Weltklasse. That's some hurdles debut!
This performance appears in both the IAAF toplist as well as Peter Larsson's list and also in different results for that year's Weltklasse. However, I note that the USA had an actual 110H exponent named Courtney Hawkins who competed at Weltklasse in 1989,90,93,94,95,97. Note that he didn't compete outdoors at all in 1992.
If you look at Courtney's 1991 season, he was in Europe competing at major meets and finishing mostly 3/4 but strangley did not appear at Weltklasse according to all records. https://www.worldathletics.org/athle...wkins-14240225
I think it's pretty obvious what the truth is but it's unusual seeing all results/lists agreeing on an error. Does anybody on the board have a greater familiarity with Courtney Hawkins' career or documentation to confirm my suspicions?
