    Very interesting!
I don't remember him at all, but it reminds me of how the 400m hurdles is an event where guys can come out of nowhere and be world class in a year or two.
    Hawkins is a perfect example.
    So is Edwin Moses.
Samba, Dos Santos, and Warholm too!

    OOPS!--my bad!
Somehow I got it in my head we were talking about Monaco--even though it clearly states it's Zurich!!
But my "WOW" still stands, whether it was Weltklasse or Herculis!!
    Whatta line-up of T&F studs!!
    LOL

I guess the current crop of stars at Monaco will seem the same 30 years from now also!

Tranel Hawkins sees little to complain about some 28 years after he suddenly hurdled into the Olympics. He's not bitter about the 400-meter hurdles final in the 1984 Olympics, when he drew Lane 1 and was forced to negotiate the tightest turns with his lanky, 6-foot-5 frame.

Yesterday, I failed to find anything on archived Weltklasse websites with the result because the current Diamond League archive is sourced from all-athletics, so has the error, the website previous to that had a database that wouldn't work and the earliest website only had results from 1996,

However, I had one last attempt and found a year pre-database but with an archive of earlier years and it confirms that it was indeed Courtney Hawkins:

Not a bad standard meet, overall, but MSP standards look strange to current eyes.

In Track Newsletter, Volume 37, Number 21 (August 22, 1991), the report on the Zürich GP, held August 15, lists "Hawkins (SMTC)" as fourth place in Race II of the 110H with a time of 13.30 (-0.6).

In Track Newsletter, Volume 37, Number 24 (October 24, 1991), the 1991 United States Men's List for the 110m Hurdles includes the following entry: "13.30 Courtney Hawkins (SMTC) 8/15".

The results of that meet in dozens of newspapers say Courtney Hawkins. I never knew Tranel to run the 110H at any high level.

    Tranel Hawkins mystery

I need some help clearing up a mystery performance.

Tranel Hawkins (USA) was a 400H athlete at Angelo State in the early 1980s. He finished 3rd at the 1984 Olympic Trials in 48.28 and finished 6th in the OG final. He made the final of the trials in 1988 but finished in 6th place. This appears to be his last 400H ever. That's a pretty solid career and a normal conclusion.

HOWEVER, his IAAF profile has one other career performance in 1991, three years after his last competition, and in the 110H, an event he doesn't seem to have run even at college let alone at international level. The mystery is heightened because this solitary performance was a 13.30 for 4th place at Weltklasse. That's some hurdles debut!

This performance appears in both the IAAF toplist as well as Peter Larsson's list and also in different results for that year's Weltklasse. However, I note that the USA had an actual 110H exponent named Courtney Hawkins who competed at Weltklasse in 1989,90,93,94,95,97. Note that he didn't compete outdoors at all in 1992.

If you look at Courtney's 1991 season, he was in Europe competing at major meets and finishing mostly 3/4 but strangley did not appear at Weltklasse according to all records. https://www.worldathletics.org/athle...wkins-14240225

I think it's pretty obvious what the truth is but it's unusual seeing all results/lists agreeing on an error. Does anybody on the board have a greater familiarity with Courtney Hawkins' career or documentation to confirm my suspicions?

Working...
