  • Gwen Torrence 1993

In 1993 Gwen Torrence's times were in the best three for the year in the 100, 200 and 400. She was third fastest in all three.

Has anyone else, male or female, ever emulated this - top three in all three sprints in the same year?

[the World Athletics database does not include the 400m time - it was 49.83 seconds in Monaco]

    Perec in 1991 was 4th in the 100, 7th (I think) in the 200 and 1st in the 400.

Of course, Marita Koch! Thanks Garry - Koch in 1985 was actually 3/1/1 in the 100/200/400.

Yes, indeed she was! The 49.9 (hand timed) was a world record. Riita Salin ran 50.14 electronic but it is reasonable to assume that this was slower.
