I share a birthday (same date and same year) with an Olympic track and field bronze medalist. Can anybody else make that claim (any medal)?

Lemme think, Leonid Spirin?
On the other hand, the gold medalist who shares my birthday attended a service academy. He won two gold medals in his only Olympic appearance, less than two months after I graduated from college, and not far from where I was born and raised. His athletics career ended approximately one month later.

At least I didn't say Spiridon Louis.

Thinking about this, athletes born in 1931 would be of Olympic age from, say, 1948 to 1968. What are the odds that out of thousands of Olympians and only 365 possible birth dates, none was born on August 4? That would seem to be a very exclusive club.Last edited by lonewolf; 06-17-2022, 04:33 AM.

Lars Torbjörn-Lassenius (FIN) b. Aug 4, 1931, placed 6th in 1956 decathlon with 6565 points.
Edward Szmidt (POL) b. Aug 4, 1931, d. 29 Apr, 2018, 1956 200m, 2nd in heat with 22.03, 6th in qf with 21.73, anchored the 4x100 Polish squad, which finished 6th in 40.9
Nina Tyurkina (SOV) b. 4 Aug 4 1931, 1952 LJ, 5.77Q, 6th in final with 5.81.
It looks as if Lars and Nina are still with us but they are retired. The 1931-08-04 hopes for a medal rest on your shoulders, lonewolf.Last edited by noone; 06-18-2022, 06:59 PM.

Yeah. That shoulder separation in August 2021 and knee replacement in February 2022 have pretty well ruled out anything physical. When they add dozing and procrastination to the Olympic program, I'm in.Last edited by lonewolf; 06-18-2022, 04:45 AM.
