Happy birthday today (Sunday) to an Olympic champion who won Olympic gold just five days before turning 27 years old.

Born 101 years ago today, this individual died at he age of 89 in the same country in which this athlete was born.

Please name our birthday champion on this final day of July.

Fanny Blankers-Koen was 30 years old in London (1948), however you do have the correct Olympic year.

Mel Patton was 23 years old when winning two Olympic gold medals (he competed in three events) in London. I can tell you that our birthday athlete competed in only one event at the 1948 London Games.

So 48 Olys. The only event that I think had a clean sweep was the (men's) steeplechase. No idea who won.

Not Herma Bauma. Yes, it was the London steeplechase.

Tore Sjostrand was born in Sweden 101 years ago today. Very well done, dukehjsteve.

Tore Sjostrand won the Olympic gold medal in the steeplechase at the 1948 London Olympics. He led a Swedish sweep (one, two, and three) of the race in London.

He died in Sweden at the age of 89 in January of 2011.

Thank you, dukehjsteve, Peter Michaelson, KDFINE, noone, and catson52.
