  • Falcon's high school times?

What was Joe Falcon's progression like? From high school onward? When was he at his peak? In college or after?

    Re: Falcon's high school times?

I believe Falcon was a 4:08 HS miler. He was great in college & after. A winner of the NCAA 10k in 1987 29:10 & NCAA 1500m 3:38 in 88.

    Won 7 NCAA titles.

    A 3:49 miler in 1990 #3 World Ranking TF&N.

We are going back in time to the days of Falcon. Well, since US milers are doing nothing today why not go "back to the future". At least when we watch old Falcon footage it won't be that grainy black and white footage we see from old Jim Ryun races.

At the age of 20 how was Joe Falcon performing. We all know of course Alan Webb is now 20. I just want to get a gauge on how Webb is performing compared to other past elite US milers.

What happened to Falcon? He was great in '90 and virtually disappeared. Anyone out there know anything?

Someone said he is a police officer in the midwest. What I remember most about Joe Falcon was in a 5000m race in Eugene he actually out kicked Doug Padilla! I think he had huge potential...if he had a good coach and a few more years to build on his 1990-91 success, I think he could have run low 3:30's in the 1500m and sub 13:00 in 5000m.

Has any other athlete ever won an NCAA 1500m title and NCAA 10,000m title?

                    Re: Falcon's high school times?

Falcon was a top miler for about 3 years. I wonder what caused his dramatic drop in performance in 92 and 93.

                        It was girl friend trouble.

Think I read somewhere that he had an achilles problem that just would not go away.

He went to high school in Belton, MO. He lived in Springfield, MO for awhile and was coached by his high school coach. Later he moved to Arkansas. I heard him on the radio once when he dispatching for a police department in Bentonville. Seems like he moved into the training division at one time.
