I'm starting to think that running close to 4:00 is much better for South American dancing potential than 4:05-types.

Wasn't it Falcon's fall in an Olympics Trials that meant the end for him? Must have been devastating for him, and he never reappeared after that -- this must have been 1992. Or do I have my years wrong --

Will Gabe ever even run 3:50 for the mile.

Yeah, but he still run faster than Falcon in High School.

I am starting to think High school runners that run mile times around 4:05 probably will run better in college than High School milers that run close to 4 minutes. Maybe the 4:05 high school runners peak at just the right time in college.

    Case in point:

Joe Falcon ran a 4:08 mile in high school. He later went onto run a 3:49 mile in 1991.

Gabe Jennings ran a 4:00.6 in high school, and has never even come close to 3:50 for the mile.

I think the importance of running a 4 minute mile in high school is overblown.

    No. I'm not a sprinter.

He went to high school in Belton, MO. He lived in Springfield, MO for awhile and was coached by his high school coach. Later he moved to Arkansas. I heard him on the radio once when he dispatching for a police department in Bentonville. Seems like he moved into the training division at one time.

Think I read somewhere that he had an achilles problem that just would not go away.

Falcon was a top miler for about 3 years. I wonder what caused his dramatic drop in performance in 92 and 93.

Has any other athlete ever won an NCAA 1500m title and NCAA 10,000m title?

Someone said he is a police officer in the midwest. What I remember most about Joe Falcon was in a 5000m race in Eugene he actually out kicked Doug Padilla! I think he had huge potential...if he had a good coach and a few more years to build on his 1990-91 success, I think he could have run low 3:30's in the 1500m and sub 13:00 in 5000m.
