1993 Decathlon: Reidel v Schult v Krabbe v Breuer (!)

Thank you to Pierre-Jean for sharing the results of a crazy meeting from back in 1993 that I knew nothing about: a challenge that featured athletes from other events competing in a decathlon against each other.

Top athletes were Discus Throwers Lars Reidel, Jurgen Schult & Rolf Danneberg; Shot Putters Oliver Sven-Buder & Stephanie Storp; High Jumper Gerd Wessig; sprinters Katrin Krabbe & Grit Breuer and Boxer Andreas Zulow.
The meeting took place at the end of the season in September (note, Krabbe & Breuer had been banned by the DLV for 1 year in 1992, and this competition was during the gap between the end of that ban, and the then IAAF's additional 2 year ban)

The meeting was of course for fun, but there were some interesting results nonetheless! Reidel won the overall meeting with 6087 which included marks of 11.48 in the 100m, 6.50m in the LJ, 1.90 in the HJ. In the SP he threw 15.59 and in his speciality, 66.66. He also did a 61.14 JT.
Grit Breuer did a decent 1.60 HJ, but how serious she & Krabbe took the competition can be measured in their sprint performances: in the 100/400 Breuer ran 13.11/60.84 and Krabbe ran 13.14/65.60.

...amazing two throwers beat a 7' high jumper in the LJ. Glad the boxer had one good event (1500)

Would love to see Crouser as he has a better decathlon "build" and 4.8 40 speed. Looks like they used high jump standards for the PV : )

I'm massively impressed by Reidel's performances. I mean, getting his huge body over 1.90 in the HJ is pretty impressive! His SP was the worst event, you'd expect him to throw further than that, but his 61m JT was VERY decent. I'm also impressed by his 11.4 in the 100m. He was still relatively 'athletic' in 93 compared to later years, but he would still have been too heavy for a decathlete. But I think this shows he could actually have been a very good decathlete had his career gone that way as a junior.
Albeit a fun event, I was also still impressed by Stephanie Storp finishing 10th, despite not entering the 400m, PV or 1500m! Breuer and Krabbe looked like they did not take any of it seriously at all, but even so, the only events Krabbe beat Breuer in were the SP and DT!

I've heard of (but can't recall who) a noted high school coach who, once a year, has the entire team do a decathlon/heptathlon to build team spirit and respect for other's events. Pole Vault started at 3'9 (10 points) with the goal of getting everyone to just clear a height.

Oldfield's combined shot and 6' high jump PB would be a little over 2000 decathlon points...

Does any athlete (doesn't have to involve decathlon) have a better combined throw/jump PB's than Peter Blank (88.70 JT, 2.25 HJ) which combine for 2219 points? I know one time UCLA HJ record holder and all around athlete Rory Kotinek jumped 2.29 and threw the old rules jave around 80 meters. A few of the decathlon world record holder have combined throw/jump PRs close to 2000. Russ Hodge has the most interesting 2000ish PB's with an 18.56 SP and a 7.69 LJ.

On the women's side JJK's shot/LJ (16m/7.49) combo add up to 2269 points Thiam's HJ/JT (2.02/59.32) is even better at 2305 points.
