  • RIP Jerry Siebert

    Jerry Siebert "died recently" per a friend of his and sent to me via the USOPC. No date or place of death yet but we presume he died in Boulder, CO.

    1960 and 1964 Olympian in the 800 metres

    If anyone finds an obituary or date and place of death please post it here.

        More sad news! One of my memories was of his winning the 800m in the famous USA vs Soviet Union at Stanford. Two years later, I found myself in the same race as he was in (either 880 yds or 800m) at Berkeley on Easter weekend in 1964. My recollection was that he met the OG qualifying standard for Tokyo in that race. Unfortunately, he was sick on the day of the OG final, and I think he finished 6th.
        My recollection is that he studied in a difficult field, such as nuclear engineering.

          Yes, Siebert was sick for the final (as I recall, "undulent fever?" from drinking unpasteurized milk in Finland), and he was a very bright guy.

            Siebert was a talented runner, a very smart person, and a very nice individual. I was sorry to hear of his death.
