Saw the movie a fews weeks ago (probably on TCM) and knew the answer. It was a wow moment for me when I saw the book.

When I was playing golf my dentist was a good friend of mine who was a scratch golfer. Right after the movie came out I went in for a check-up and he looked at me, with instruments in my mouth, and asked me, "Is it safe?" Was not a pleasant experience. But we're still friends.

Speaking of "is it safe?", a friend of mine recently had two stents put in his coronary arteries. He's on blood thinner, went to the dentist for a cleaning. It was a long time before the bleeding stopped. His cardiologist told him afterwards not to go to the dentist for at least four months. I'm due for a cleaning myself. I'm not on any blood thinners, but will be curious to see if I'm asked if I am.
