    It was an honor and a privilege to be a friend of Eddie’s the last 13 years of his life.

    Edward J. Kirk, Sr., a longtime resident of Severna Park, MD. passed away peacefully on January 19, 2023 at Charlestown Retirement Community.

    Ed was born to Thomas Kirk and Katherine Brennan in West Orange, NJ. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and St. Benedict’s Preparatory School. He earned a track scholarship to Georgetown University and while there he completed the ROTC program. In 1953, Ed was a member of Georgetown’s famous 2-mile, 4-mile and distance medley relay teams which were ranked Home in the country. In 1955, he received Georgetown University’s first Robert A. Duffey Scholar Athlete Award and was later inducted into Georgetown’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

    After graduating, he served in the United States Air Force, where he trained to be a fighter pilot and represented Air Force at the 1956 Track & Field Olympic Trials.

    In 1958, Ed met Elaine Borduas, the love of his life, while on a blind date in New York City and they were married in Portland, Maine on August 8, 1959. They raised their four children in Severna Park and were happily married for 54 years.

    Ed had a successful career with C&P Telephone Company and retired as an executive from Bell Atlantic after 32 years. Following a brief retirement, he became the Director of Development at Mount St. Joseph High School.

    Ed was an avid golfer. He enjoyed sailing on the Severn River and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He cherished his life-long friends including his Bridge group and track buddies and he treasured his family vacations in Maine every year.

    Along the way, he was President of Chartwell Community Association and Green Hornets Athletic Association. He was a long-time recreational basketball coach and was the official starter at US Naval Academy track meets for 50 years.

    Ed volunteered with many charitable organizations including Our Lady of the Fields and Sarah’s House of Catholic Charities of Baltimore. He dedicated his life to helping others- serving God, family and community. He will be dearly missed by many.

    He is survived by his two sons, Edward Kirk (Linda) and Michael Kirk (Andrea); two daughters, Susan Stokes (Kerwin) and Anne Hart (Peter); ten grandchildren, Eddie, Katie, Michelle, Brian, Elizabeth, Tom, Hunter, Ashley, Elena and Lauren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Elaine Kirk; his brother, Thomas Kirk and his daughter-in-law, Diane Kirk.

    Friends may visit on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Avenue, Millersville, MD 21108. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. There will be a reception in the church immediately following the burial.
