  • NCAA SP 56-62 era

    Asking for a friend . . .

Looking just at the years 1956-62, how did the SP work at the NCAAs?

Was there a Qual round one day and Finals the next? Did Qual throws count for final placing? Were the Finals only 3 more throws?

Friend is looking for the date of the 'winning mark' in those years, but it's complicated if the above questions are answered 'yes'. He's trying to compile all 18m marks.

Looking at newspaper reports from some of those years, it looks like they had three throws on one day, and then the top howevermany had three more the next day in the "final", with all marks counting. I could indeed be mistaken, but that's what it looks like to me.

for many years the protocol was 4 throws on Friday, 3 on Saturday for the finalists

So, from gm's and your post (thank you), the answer to my question was 'yes'.
Is there a record of which throws were on which days? I read in TN from then that on at least one occasion (56), the winning throw came on the first day.
