Didn't he run a 9.1 100 yard dash his freshman year?

    Steve Williams, star-crossed sprinter

I meant star-crossed. Where's Dr. Freud when you need him?

I recall '76 Trials 100, when Steve pulled up, and announcer, presumably unaware mike was on, said "oh, shit!..", audible over the crowd. (or was it just a voice in my head?)

    That would apply to
    >the Montreal Olympics but not any other. >>

Find a copy of T&F News from the spring of 1972 and see what Steve Williams was doing as a UTEP freshman, high on the lists in all three sprints before he got injured. He already had the goods then.

Do you mean he was "star crossed"? I believe that fits he and Jim Ryun. The guys running the 100 and 200 in '76 were no doubt thrilled that Williams was out.

Does anyone recall Steve Williams? He had a long inseam, and would always be the # 1 ranked American sprinter in the "1" or the "2", then suffer untimely injuries prior to the Olympics.
