Texas, I would have thought that Billy "White Shoes" Johnson would have made your nickname list. I guess it was a little more catchy than his birth name, William Arthur Johnson. Speaking of football, how about Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch and Dick "NIght Train" Lane? Apparently, he acquired the nickname "Night Train" from a hit record by Buddy Morrow which was frequently played by one of his teammates. "NIght Train" Lane was raised in Texas by a woman who found him in a dumpster. How's that for a find, a Hall of Fame cornerback?

Oklahoma Sooners had the perfect corner and defensive back, Chijioke Onyenegecha. What an awesome football name!

Off topic, but I always liked ex-Spurs footballer Justin Edinburgh's nickname given by his teammates. It was "Leith".

            Out with the atlases!

My favorite names from Baseball are Coco Crisp and Howard Johnson.

For nicknames, what about the John Joneses from Texas in the mid 70's; JohnLam, JohnBam, and JohnHam (from Lampasas, Alabama, and Hamilton?, I think).

I know but being a Brit I've disqualified myself. This reminded me of the classic tongue twister. Try saying this as fast as possible multiple times:

"The Leith police dissmisseth us, I'm thankful sir to say, The Leith Police dismisseth us, They thought we sought to stay, The Leith Police dismisseth us, We both sighed sighs apiece, And the sighs we sighed as we waved goodbye, Was the size of the Leith Police."

Just tried, after 3 large JDs. Was like my tongue got a stiffie, had to stop. Will try again tomorrow.

Am I allowed to say stiffie? If not, moderators, please use "erection", "hard-on" or your own choices/suggestions at your discretion. Thank you.
