i think wally has never looked to run a 100 consistently & therefore his actual 100pb is highly unlikely to represent his true abilty ( remember x-man had not run a 100 in ?2y until this year & that was a ~ 10.35 from then - it was pretty obvious from his 20.02 last year, he had to be worth quicker than that - & he showed that with a 10.09 earlier this season )
i'd be very surprised if wally is not at least 10.15 - 10.20, considering how fast he runs the stretch

Here are guys who ran sub 20.00,s who did little, if anything, in the 100 on the world stage.
Kederis
Floyd Heard
John Regis
Usian Bolt
Jeff Williams
Henry Carr was a 9.3 guy when the record was 9.1. Tommie Smith a 9.3/10.1 guy.
Early WR's
1900 Walter Tewksbury, USA 22.2
1904 Archie Hahn, USA 21.6 OR
1908 Bobby Kerr, CAN 22.6
1912 Ralph Craig, USA 21.7
1920 Allen Woodring, USA 22.0 .....bingo!!!!!!

Marcin Urbas. Without doubt.
Not only the worst 100m runner of the bunch, but crap at 200m too.
In defence of Heard and Regis they did both run on 37.7 relay squads and were no worse at 100m than the likes of Lorenzo Daniel or Kirk Baptiste.
Claudinei DaSilva probably belongs in this group at 10.13.
Jeff Williams did have one good year at 100m. This is his sequence in coming 4th at the 1996 trials, when he missed making the Olympic team by 0.04 seconds.
heat 10.02
QF 10.07
SF 10.05
Final 10.06
1920 Allen Woodring, USA 22.0 .....bingo!!!!!!
There was a guy called Walter Rangely who won a silver behind Percy WIlliams who doesn't appear to have left much trace at 100 in that era.
The 200m medalists from Rome in 1960 don't strike me as the most talented bunch of short sprinters. (*cough*Livio Berruti*cough*)
Gilles Queneherve and Elliott Quow both have world championship 200m silverware, wouldn't want to vouch for their 100m bona fides.
Since the thread specifies this needs to be a "great" 200m man with a lousy 100, what about Peter Norman?

Andre Cason was a higher calibre talent, and although he probably had potential, he was short and explosive and never did anything at 200m. Even he has a windy 20.11 (+4.0) though.
It's actually pretty hard to find a genuine medal threat at 100m who can't run a reasonably compentant deuce.

The post I was responding to has disapeared!
