  • Atlanta '96 - ten year anniversary celebration

Can't believe it has been ten years. I tend to be critical of the Atlanta games, but it wasn't all bad. It was neat to see the volunteers wearing their old uniforms last night. I need to quit being so critical. I guess Atlanta did the best it could. A lot of it was fun. The track trials (I was there every day) and competition in general was good. Lots of glitches, but it was fun. So much has changed since then. Over a million people have moved to Atlanta. The growth is mindboggling.

The trials were quite hot - what you'd expect for Atlanta in the summer, but I recall that the weather was not as bad as you'd expect during the Olympic Games themselves.

What exactly would your definition of a "bad" Olympics be then? Hard to imagine a worse one, and I've been to a bunch.

As I've said before, I was there for 2 days and it effectively ended any and all interest on my part in EVER bothering with another Olympics. Is that a valid definition of "bad"? I think probably so!

watching it from my tv as a 10 year old., it was probably the most exciting event of my life up until then!!

maybe it wasnt so great being there, but atlanta has provided me with some of my most poignant memories of athletics, the most affecting were definately watching ottey in both the 100m and 200m - heartbreaking!

All my life, I had wanted to attend an Olympics. When I finally made it, it was as a competition official at Atlanta 1996. It was a memorable, once in a life time experience but I would not have wanted to have to deal with the logistics of getting to and from the track as the spectators did. They are the true fans.

I would love to work another Olympics but I fear I will be a little long in the tooth before the Olympics return to the US. I will console myself with the knowledge you can see it better on TV.
