Carlos Lopes was POR, not MAR.

Good luck with your women's list. I think you'll find the reverse of the men, with perhaps only five westerners still winning. I've always felt that on the women's side, the finals were generally the equivalent of one of the two semis of what the meet should have been. In other words, we saw only one-third of the best races.

After taking a brief look at the '84 Annual Issue, the only LA women's champs who would have been prohibitive favorites in a real OG were Ashford and Samuelson. Some of the Romanians (Puica in the 3k, Stanciu in the LJ) would have had a good shot at it, and Meyfarth in the HJ and Sanderson in the JT might have had a chance. Other than that, it's the commies all the way . . .

You had to look at an issue to figure it out? And here you've been trying to pass yourself off as an expert all this time, and I almost bought it.

Looking at your list, I see seven, including Gauder.

Well, since the Russians and E. Germans have openly admitted that they were at the height of their 'enhancement' programs, isn't the real answer, "Who cares?" The more relevant question is - who had the most sophsticated 'program'?

I don't consider myself an expert, just someone who wastes far too much time on this stuff. The most important skill for a lawyer is to know where to look things up--and I'd rather have you make fun of me than get my facts wrong.

I was also in the 7th grade when those games happened, so I thought I'd check to see if my recollection was correct. I'd have left out the LJer if I hadn't.
