What about the most innovation hat-wearing model in Olympic history, Dave Wottle. he was in dead-last with 100 meters to go in the final of the 72 800 meters and he ran down the whole field. He only had to make up 12 meters at the most, but it took every inch of the race to pass Archenov of the USSR, his time was considered slow at the time 1:45:9? , however he ran the same type of race in the Olympic Trials and won it with a then WR tying 1:44:3.
