            Re: Jim Beatty - 2mile record 6/08/62

In Beatty's 2-mile record run on 6/08/62 I would like to find the complete list of finishers. Also the same information for Beatty's sub-4 indoors, the first in the world, complete list of finishers. Last but not least I am looking for a listing of the US distance runners sent to Rome in 1960, 5000m is my main interest. Any help would be great!!!!!!

Jim Beatty is a consultant / business man in Charlotte, NC and has a office in town. Try looking for it in the Charlotte Phone Directory on-line and call him and ask. I'm sure he has the info. I'd look it up for you but I gotta run to a meeting.

Is the list the results from the race or the progression of the 2m record? I am looking for the meet results for the 6/08/62 2m race in which Jim Beatty set the record. It would be great to have an article from 62 talking about the race!

                        Re: Jim Beatty - 2mile record 6/08/62

The list is the results of the two mile race run June 8, 1962. It was a part of the results listed in the June 20, 1962 Track Newsletter, Page 156. The race was run as part of a
Southern Pacific AAU meet. Robertson ran unattached and all other runners were competing for the LATC (the Los Angeles Track Club coached by Mihaly Igloi and sponsored by the Los Angeles Athletic Club).
Also in that meet, Dallas Long had the second and third best throws of all-time in the SP winning with a best of 65' 2 3/4".

Thanks for the results, in the list of finishers do they list more than top 7?

They list no others in that race. There was a full meet and it was possibly the annual Southern Pacific AAU Championship. It was a full meet with a mile won by Kozar(LATC) in 4:10.3 and a three mile won by Ron Larrieu (then Culver City AC) in 14:01.6. The very short article praised Ron Morris (Striders) for jumping an all-time best of 15'81/4" "with his fiberglass pole, a quarter of an inch better than he was able to do with a metal pole". The article said nothing about the two mile race except that it was a world record.
