  • 4 Silvers and 1 Bronze

This man turns 38 years old today (same day Abraham Lincoln turns 198). Unlike Mr. Lincoln, this man won two Olympic silver medals and one bronze medal. He also has two silver medals from the world championships. Here's a little hint: If it weren't for a great thrower from the Czech Republic, he might have some gold medals. Who is this person?

At 38 he should still be competing

It's very unfair to say Steve has no gold medals. He has four Euro titles, which in men's jav are (almost) equivalent to a World or Olympic gold (as opposed to Colin Jackson's four Euro golds in the hurdles - though he does have two world titles), especially since he beat Zelezny in three of those champs.
Certainly not all world or even Olympic champs were greater than Steve (Thorkildsen could be in the future but is not quite yet, despite now having a better PB, certainly he was not already greater in 2004 - Varnik certainly isn't, Makarov's performance to win Paris gold was not great and Corbett wasn't around long enough, though he also beat Steve in the 1998 Comms).
Krymarenko is not greater than Rybakov, Blom not greater than Averbukh, and going backwards, Galfione (and Hysong, but as an American he can't really be compared) was not greater than Gataullin.

And the EC is the one hole in Zelezny's resume.
