Just a very impressive statistic that witnesses
how brilliant this champion was:
1988: 43"29... 1996: 43"91.
Incredible but true, knowing that in history,
only bionic Michael JOHNSON ran sub-44" 400m
from 1992 to 2000...
Nine years!!!
Ihave had the priviledge to meet H.B.REYNOLDS
in 1987 at the PARIS Jean Bouin Meeting.
I have appreciated his kindness to answer the
questions of the shy young fan I was.
Even after his race as he had just been beaten
by the Nigerian Innocent EGBUNIKE.
Total respect.

And Butch is another of a small minority of drug-accused athletes that I think was wrongfully accused.

Does this mean we can expect your insight on every athlete who gets mentioned in an historical post from on; whether or not you think they used drugs, even though there was no preceding mention of the subject in the thread? Oh joy.

Nice mention. Another Ohio horse. I remember in the 1982 Ohio High School Track and Field championships when Butch was a junior at Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio. Im' not 100% certain, but I believe his father and an uncle were sitting next to me, an they were screaming their heads off "Go Harry, Go Harry". he finished second to Laron Brown (University of Tennessee All-American 44.87 in 84') from Dayton Roth in the Divison II segment. 47.54 to 48.0?. Reynolds didn't make state as a senior in 83'. I was proud to see him go on to Ohio State and win NCAA's in 87' then follow tha up with a WR , amn Olympic gold and silver (It should have been 2 gold's) and wondering how proud the two gentlemen (who I presume were his father and uncle) must have felt about Reynold's acccomplishments. (When I get all the details together, I'll disclose this particular Ohio State T&F championships from 1982 and how many of the participants went on to greater accomplishments in track & field and even the NFL.

I had the pleasure of being at Butch Reynolds' final track meet. Afterwards a bunch of us went out to dinner at a local restaurant. Butch was one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Not an ounce of hubiris in him. We had a wonderful conversation about his career and the future of track. It's a shame we don't have more athletes like him in the sport.
