  • Who was Jim GOLLIDAY?...

Through the fifties, he seemed to be a
great sprinter- Ihave just had a look at the
World rankings during that decade - and I read
somewhere that too many injuries had destroyed
    his fantastic potential.
Can anyone tell me more about his athletic life?
I read he was dead from a heart attack in 1970.

    From Quercetani's recent book.

Jim Golliday was born at Sacramento, on April 23, 1931. During the fifties was 1.76 m tall (5'9") and weighed 76 kg (167 lb). Won NCAA 100 m in 1952 in 10.4 against a stiff wind. Sidelined later by muscular ailment. On May 14, 1955, Golliday equalled the world record 9.3 for 100 y at Evanston, IL.

Quercetani comments "American experts still wonder what Golliday might have achieved if his muscles had not failed him now and then. At his best he looked very much like the perfect sprinter."
