INdoors did not count whatsoever then, and still does not if it's on a wood runway, which Uelses first indoor 16 footers were.

AS another example, Brumel jumped 7'4/1/2"/2.25 indoors on dirt in the winter of 1961, but it never was or could be considered for WR consideration. Brumel himself had to get outdoors and jump 2.23, then 2.24, then 2.25 and on up to get official WR's. Yashchenko had the same deal with his indoor mark although in his case at least he already had the WR.

Finally, Warmerdam had an indoor mark out there for over 15 years that was better than his official WR.

Not Murphy. I am going to give up on this, so I again apologize if Murphy went to Manhattan, did he ? Knew he was 1960.

I am talking about Lou Jones.

I realize this is a very old thread, but I found it when I was searching for information on Lou Jones, who passed away on Friday(2-3) after a long bout with diabetes. The viewing is on Tuesday, February 7th at 7-9 PM and the funeral is on Wednesday, February 8, at 10 AM, both at St Catherine Church, 19 Lincoln Avenue, New Rochelle, NY (914-235-0001).

And, yes, Murphy went to Manhattan College. Jones and Murphy are both members of the school's Hall of Fame. And Centrowitz spent his freshman year at Manhattan before transferring to Oregon. (I'm sure these questions were answered long ago)
