    Re: Dave Johnson

The Dave Johnson on this board is also the dj who won the Districts XC contest, and is former T&FN Statistician. And, of course, is now most famous (can't imagine why) as the director of the Penn Relays.

Maybe I'm embellishing this story a bit, but at the '88 Olympic Trials a group of Japanese journalists wanted to buy a copy of the FAST Annual from Scott Davis, and DJ's name was listed on the cover and when they saw it they said, "Davie Johnson?! Beisboru?!"

Damn, DJ. After all these years, I finally can remove the albatross of having my successor being an Olympic medalist. I can't tell you how much depression I've had thru the years having to live with that. I remember seeing you @ San Jose in 1987 and wondering how such a scrawny person could wind up throwing so far in the weights. I figured it must be steroids. Oh shit, I just resolved another dilemma. Now I know you weren't wearing a fake beard @ New Orleans for the Trials so that people in the stands wouldn't bother you for your autograph.

'Taint me. Although I do get calls for him, and in fact was called at about 4:00 A.M. the day after Dan O'Brien no-heighted in the vault at the '92 trials.

One of the morning TV shows wanted Dan and Dave on the air. They also called the wrong Dan O'Brien, who was working for the TAC information crew. We realized we both should have gone to the studio and confused the hell out of them.

    Re: Dave Johnson

After '92, Dave made a run at the 1996 Games, but battled injuries most of that time. He had some big scores after Barcelona, but wasn't a factor by the '96 Trials and retired afterwards. He returned to college and earned a masters degree in special education. He now teaches Special Ed. and coaches high school track in Albany, Oregon. He is currently seeking a college track and field position, and in my opinion, will do an excellent job.

Its called Aim High. Got a pic of him holding a javelin on the front. I thought it was really good, the church sermon was about how his life changed mate, in a big way.

    Dave Johnson

I read Dave Johnson's autobiography (or church sermon, I'm not completely sure which) and it basically ended with his bronze at the '92 olympics. In the book, it says he planned to continue training and competing once his foot healed. I can't remember him doing anything with respect to the decathlon after those olympics. Does anyone know what happened?
