you have to argue that a squad with King + leroy couda run at least 37.55 to have enough leeway to whup them

were King + leroy, fast/fit enough with jon & dennis to run 37.55 that day ?
they could also have ahd bad changes and dropp[ed the baton. the canadians didn't depend on speed they had amazing changes and cold well have been 3m up on usa !!!
If you look at the fastest 4x1's ever ran you'll notice the names...

    Jon Drummond
    Leroy Burrell
    Dennis Mitchell
    Carl Lewis

...all over the place. Those four were more relay experienced and had more speed with the exception of Bailey. So..."all things being equal"....the USA wins!

Were these guys at their peaks in 96'? Three of these guys were clearly past their best. The US couldn't beat the Canadians then and they knew it. Get over it. 88' was the Olympics were you have a gripe Brutal........

The reason Tim Harden leg was slower was due partly to the fact that mid through his leg, around 50-60 meters or so, he adjusts the baton in his hand. It slowed his momentum and that is what the newscasters blamed for his average leg and the eventual loss for the US. The bottom line is that had the US had it's stuff together, the outcome would have been drastically different.

You do know that all four of those I mentioned were ranked in the top six in the USA....right? You honestly believe that Burrell gets destroyed by Gilbert like Harden did? That was the race right there.

I don't know about destroyed. But the US team was weak that year and Burrell couldn't even make that team. So what does that say about Burrell? Besides like many non-descript Soviet sprinters Gilbert was relay specialist, that overachieved in the relays.
