    As well as age bests at 16 (6.91m), 17 (6.98m), 18 (7.14m) and 19 (7.40m).

    And a windy 7m+ in 1981!

Exactly. And to add to your stats, Drechsler also has 4 european golds, world and european indoor titlkes, the longest recorded junp by a woman ever at 7.63w, the world indoor record (7.37) world junior and senior world records in her career, as well as 20 yrs in the worlds top 10 & the highest ranking score in an event in the TFN rankings.

    There really is no comparison.

I totally buy everything in the above two posts (and also knew it), but as I say, all things considered, I'll go with JJK.

    Olympic Medals
    HD - 2 gold, 1 silver; JJK - 1 gold, 2 bronze

    World Champs Medals
    HD - 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze; JJK - 2 gold

    Performances of 7.30 or greater
    HD - 20; JJK - 8

    Performances of 7.40 or greater
    HD - 8; JJK - 4

Of the 60 longest jumps of all times, 27 belong to Drechsler and 8 belong to Kersee.

I think you'd have to put Drechsler ahead of JJK -

On win-loss in major championships JJK is ahead 4-3 (3-1 in WC, 1-2 in OG)

    JJK has OG - 1 Gold, 2 Bronze, WC - 2 Gold + 5th/6th
    HD has OG - 2 Gold, 1 Silver, WC - 2 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze + 4th/9th/NQ

JJK has 40 marks at 7m or better in her career, but HD has 124 such efforts

Drechsler misses out on almost certain OG gold in 1984

Out of the 3 categories usually used in rating athletes (Honours won, Head-to-head, Marks) HD leads 2 to 1

No question that JJK has a greater career when considering all events, but
in LJ HD must have the edge

Can't see how anyone can argue against either of these as the best ever in that event.
All things considered, I'd put JJK over Dreschler, even though HD has more 'honors won'.

So far, Eldrick still hasn't let us know who he thinks the men's long jump GOAT is. :P

That statement just about wraps up the discussion, IMHO!!
From dj - I like the comparison between Beamon and Maris as I think it's applicable.

I was unable to weigh in on this earlier but just want to confirm that Carlton Lewis is the GLJOAT.

    I'm guessing 8: twice winning 100, 220, 120H and BJ. Or 10 including 220H?

For all I know, he won titles in four different years.

dj obviously knows that William DeHart Hubbard set a WR of 7.89m in 1925. He also knows another later "record" was disallowed because the takeoff board was an inch higher than the pit. He might not know what I worked out a while back. With a probable takeoff angle of 19-21 degrees (provided by Boo Shexnayder), some physics guys & I have determined that had the sand been level with the board, he would have jumped at least 7.90 and probably 7.91. Not a real WR in any sense, but worth mentioning.

Disclaimer: In no way, shape , or form am I arguing that Hubbard should be considered the GOAT. Trivia question: How many Ohio state championships did Hubbard win?

That is certainly one explanation. MY explanation is that he hit HIS perfect jump, as Beamon did his, but my argument here is that CL's is worth MUCH more than BB's (or anyone else's in history with the possible exception of Jesse's monster WR).
