So far, Eldrick still hasn't let us know who he thinks the men's long jump GOAT is. :P

Can't see how anyone can argue against either of these as the best ever in that event.
All things considered, I'd put JJK over Dreschler, even though HD has more 'honors won'.

I think you'd have to put Drechsler ahead of JJK -

On win-loss in major championships JJK is ahead 4-3 (3-1 in WC, 1-2 in OG)

        JJK has OG - 1 Gold, 2 Bronze, WC - 2 Gold + 5th/6th
        HD has OG - 2 Gold, 1 Silver, WC - 2 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze + 4th/9th/NQ

JJK has 40 marks at 7m or better in her career, but HD has 124 such efforts

Drechsler misses out on almost certain OG gold in 1984

Out of the 3 categories usually used in rating athletes (Honours won, Head-to-head, Marks) HD leads 2 to 1

No question that JJK has a greater career when considering all events, but
in LJ HD must have the edge

JJK may be your sentimental favorite, but there's really no comparison if you lay their resumes side by side.

          Olympic Medals
          HD - 2 gold, 1 silver; JJK - 1 gold, 2 bronze

          World Champs Medals
          HD - 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze; JJK - 2 gold

          Performances of 7.30 or greater
          HD - 20; JJK - 8

          Performances of 7.40 or greater
          HD - 8; JJK - 4

Of the 60 longest jumps of all times, 27 belong to Drechsler and 8 belong to Kersee.

I totally buy everything in the above two posts (and also knew it), but as I say, all things considered, I'll go with JJK.

              .
Exactly. And to add to your stats, Drechsler also has 4 european golds, world and european indoor titlkes, the longest recorded junp by a woman ever at 7.63w, the world indoor record (7.37) world junior and senior world records in her career, as well as 20 yrs in the worlds top 10 & the highest ranking score in an event in the TFN rankings.

              There really is no comparison.

                As well as age bests at 16 (6.91m), 17 (6.98m), 18 (7.14m) and 19 (7.40m).

                And a windy 7m+ in 1981!

I don't think it's fair to mention Drechsler's European titles unless you also include Kersee's US titles in the discussion, but even without the European titles, there's still plenty of basis for proclaiming HD the GOAT. But in all fairness to JJK, at least the women's GOAT is debatable, unlike the men's GOAT which everyone except Eldrick agrees on.

Wasn't Carl Lewis 35 when he won Olympic gold in 1996. It's amazing how similar their careers were, though Drechsler was never quite as dominant in the sprints.
