  • Steve Jones question

    From the Denver Post:

"One day last week, Julian and Jones helped Culpepper through a 10-mile tempo run,"

    http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_7188118

What does that mean? Is Jones still fit enough to even run part of a training run with Culpepper. I have heard various stories and he sure looks fit but what is the deal?

A ten mile tempo run? That would be 5 min. pace, right?

Helped does not mean he ran the whole distance. I'm assuning he joined in for the last half or less.

That's why I said "part". If he ran any significant portion(more than a mile or so) of it with him, it is impressive.

Read that too fast, now I see the "part" part. Will be interesting to hear if anyone knows. Even so, my gutt feeling is that he could run a few files at five minute pace, although, I don't have a good guage on this sort of thing. How old is he now?

Jones is 52. I know Steve pretty well, and when I saw him at last years' Chicago Marathon he wasn't running much at all. By the way the article says he helped with Culpepper. Whatever that means.

Reading the article it mentions everyone is on their own now in Boulder, while back in the 80's everyone showed up at Rob's house and went for a run, which is true. Even the BRR Sunday long runs would have Rob, Jonesy, and the big shots in town, ie. Lopes, Rosa Mota, etc. show up. It was a great time. Boulder was cheap to live in, and everyone got along from the 'joggers' to the stars in town.

I thught he was a bit older-a few 5 minute miles would be possible if he is doing anything.

As ridiculous as this sounds, the Sunday morning runs in Brantford in the early to mid eighties were the social event of the week and a blast.
