  • 1983 U.S- East Germany meet in L.A

I've been a fan of the sport for 45 years but I might have been at a bar when it happened....I was just browsing thru "The Milers" and it came up there.

In the 1500 Scott beat Busse and Byers in 3.39.

Any other results for this meet out there?

It was in LA, so I guess the Colosseum?

In the same issue of T&FN where I read this, is a little article entitled:

        Unknown Aouita runs 3:32.54
Whatever happened to that guy? Did he ever fulfill that great early potential?

I went to that meet in 1983 and I remember what a great anchor leg Carl Lewis ran in the 4 X 100 relay. He looked so smooth and so ready for Helsinki in a few weeks.

                The meet itself was colossal!

Still sticks in my mind as one of the great anchors ever; he took the baton what, a good 3m down to Frank Emmelmann and absolutely ate him alive.

Yup. He might have even been able to overtake Eddie Hart.

more than a 1/2 second behind the '72 team .... how fast was the LA track relative to the Munich72 track?
... nothing really ever changes my friend, new lines for old, new lines for old.

I attended that meet in 1983 and what struck me was the size of the East German women....  Not just the throwers or the combined-event types, but the sprinters & jumpers.

Of course, when you're 19 years old, 5'9" and 155, there's a lot things bigger than that....

Some of the 72/76 women were gorgeous, but just TOO ripped. There was one 400 stud, whose name escapes me right now, who was BEAUTIFUL, and I had her poster up for a while, till my wife made me take it down!

eidt - found her - Monika Zehrt, '72 400 Gold. She's the one on the left here, but this does not do her justice. She was retired by age 21!!!
