British pedestrianism of the 18th and 19th centuries

I've been doing some research into British pedestrian competitions of the late-18th and early 19th centuries and am wondering if lurking among this site's contemporary track and field fans are a few folks with a good knowledge of earlier periods of track history (or a good knowledge of those who have a good knowledge of the period that interests me).

I've been rummaging around in a few interesting first and second hand sources, but would like to see if I can flush out any new leads.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check with one of the Ultramarathoning magazines out there (Ultrarunner will have to help us out, here). I recall reading some articles and a book by Tom ???, an ultrarunner from New Jersey who had done a lot of reserach on this topic.

A fabulous source of information is Warren Roe's book "Front Runners: The First Athletic Track Champions" (Sussex: The Book Guild, 2002).
