                        tn, why the attack on cool points? A nearly 20 foot long jump at age 17 is not so un-macho for a MILER! I recall that on another thread (probably the infamous "can an average guy run a 6 minute mile?") people were riduculing the notion that a 4 minute miler might be able to squat 2x his body wt. IMHO, I bet any 4 minute miler could do squat 2x their puny body wt easily, but, also, I bet that most world class milers would have thought they were really cool if they could long jump 20 ft.!

                          Great guess satchman. At 17, Elliot jumped 19' 7.5". I probably would have guessed Ovett (maybe he did??)

                            I'm almost certain Dr Snell began his athletics career in rugby and tennis. I remember that after a few races (I think he ran low 2s for 800m) that a track coach he would never go anywhere because "he has no kick."
