  • Mystery Athlete

I've been to 5 Olympics, won major medals there, but never won a World Championships individual medal. I'm the second person with my surname to win Olympic medals in 2 events, but we're not related. I was an NCAA champion as well. Who am I?

      Re: Mystery Athlete

Sorry but nope, no cigar. Carl Lewis did win individual medals at the Worlds, this one didn't. And I should modify one point: This athlete won individual Olympic medals in 2 events, and the other one with the same last name also medalled in the same 2 events (but not only those 2).

Sorry Satch I got confused for a second there. Forget what I said about Carl. Steve Lewis never won WC medals. Anyway, the hunt is still on, follow the rest of the clues.

Far as I know she never won medals in 2 individual events, didn't she win Tokyo relay silver? Anyway you're getting warmer than Satch was.

huh? PS - we ain't talking about nobodies here. Between them, 4 Olympic Golds, 2 silver and 1 bronze. 5 Olympic Games for one and 2 (healthy) for the other. Another hint: radio chair. (but don't get hung up on the last one)

Willye White medaled in the long jump and the 4 X 100 relay, the latter at Tokyo. She made 5 Olympic teams.

Thanks. Anyway, those are not 2 individual events.

-1964 Tokyo, Silver Medalist, 4X100 Meter Relay.
Willye White is the only American to have competed on five Olympic track and field teams and the first American Female to medal in the long jump in the Olympic Games.

OK, here's another: I was on 5 Olympic teams but I don't hold the record for my country. Someone else was on more.

Another better clue: The older of us is the only athlete male or female in Olympic history to have accomplished something major, very major.
