  • Melvin Miller Inducted into Toledo HOF

Melvin Miller, football (1966-68) and track and field (1967-69): Melvin Miller was a three-year letterwinner in football and track for the Rockets. Miller played on the UT's first MAC campionship team in 1967 and earned first-team All-MAC honors as an offensive guard in 1968. He earned Academic All-MAC honors in 1966. Miller held the school record for the pole vault at 16-0, which also set the record at the time at the Penn Relays. He made honorable mention Academic All-American for track.

Was not a Penn Relays record, as Brian Sternberg vaulted a WR 16-5 at Penn in 1963.

I read it as, also at the time, he set the school record (16-0) at the Penn Relays, but can see how easily it reads that he set a Penn Relays record.

While I realize it was a different era, I'm still thinking hard about the combination "offensive lineman / pole-vaulter". It's very difficult to picture.

I remember Mel Miller as about 6-0, 190lb, but figured he was a running back.
