  • Performance of the Year trivia

Carl Lewis is the king of the Athlete of the Year, with three #1 rankings (tied with El Guerrouj for the most ever) and the "scoring leader" at 74 points if top tens are scored 10-9-8, etc.

But how many times did Lewis pick up the Performance of the Year honors?

    I'll randomly guess zero.

Should have won in '84 with his 4 golds, and must have won on another ocassion?

I think by "performance" they mean just 1 singular feat.

              Zero for Lewis is correct.

I have annual men's POY info (five deep) compiled, and once I get this year's added in I'll get it up on the web.

                  "1982 5= Lewis, Carl USA 9.14f LJ 0.5"

Was this the Indy mark that was "never measured"? Or something else? I'm interested in knowing more about what T&FN had to say about this specifically . . .

That is the one. Look around this board; there's plenty of discussion about it somewhere, including a link to a YouTube video of the jump.
