This has been discussed a few times already. Chamberlain was actually crap as a T&F athlete.

Alan Webb....people forget that the kid could dunk a basketball and was an all-state quarterback. He also played the tuba and could chomp down 5 peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches in under 60 seconds.

That explains why isn't running so fast any more... Too many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Jackie Robinson led the Pacific Conference in scoring at 12 points per game, and was conference long jump champ. Jackie Joyner was an All-Pac 8 basketball player and a UCLA track star. I have heard that David Thompson, who may have been the best basketball player in ACC annals, was a very good triple jumper.

There was a trivia question along this line a few months ago

                            http://trackandfieldnews.com/tfn/discus ... sage=11075

The question being who's the only guy with an Olympic gold and an NBA title?

(and while we're at it, allow me to mention once again that Wilt did NOT jump 6-8, nor did he run a sub-50 relay leg: indeed, I'd be surprised if he ever ran a leg after high school, and anybody who ran sub-50 as a prep in his days was among the nation's best quartermilers)
